"We attempt to identify how various financial subsectors and individual companies, of any market capitalization, will perform given market conditions and our economic projections."
- Anton Schutz, Portfolio Manager since inception
The Burnham Industries Fund invests in the common stocks of U.S. companies of any market capitalization that are in the financial services sector. (In contrast, the Burnham Financial Services Fund invests primarily in financial services companies that have market capitalizations of less than $8 billion).
We attempt to identify how various financial subsectors and individual companies will perform given market conditions and our economic projections. Using proprietary research techniques, we seek out financial services stocks in regions across the country, and in a range of financial industries, including: regional and money center banks, insurance companies, home, auto and other speciality finance companies, securities brokerage and electronic trading networks, publicly traded government-sponsored intermediaries, conglomerates, real estate investment trusts, and depository institutions. In making investment decisions, we consider: capable management, attractive business niches, sound financial and accounting practices and sustainable earnings, revenue and cash flow growth. We also look for firms that are undervalued based on their balance sheets or individual circumstances, are temporarily distressed, or poised for a merger or acquisition.
Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Investment return and principal value will fluctuate with market conditions and an investor's shares, when redeemed, may be worth more or less than their original cost.
