Burnham Securities Inc.
Randal Stephenson joined Burnham Securities Inc. in 2009. He specializes in advising mid-sized, growth, non-investment grade and distressed companies, particularly those in transition or facing challenging or urgent circumstances. He has completed over 150 M&A and corporate financing transactions valued at over $30 billion during his 20 years of experience as a bankruptcy and M&A lawyer, private equity investment principal and investment banker.
Mr. Stephenson is a proponent of old fashioned, relationship banking, and is convinced that clients value integrity, objectivity and longevity over generic transaction ideas. He believes that an individual banker’s reputation, relationships, credibility and experience are paramount, that a deal has to make common sense and be penciled-out on the back of a napkin before any spreadsheets are built, and that clients more than ever need to put their faith in their trusted advisor, not a computer model or term sheet.
Prior to joining Burnham, Mr. Stephenson was Head of Middle Market M&A Advisory and Distressed and Special Situations Advisory at CIT Group, Inc. He previously served as Head of Exclusive Sales & Divestitures Advisory and Head of Special Situations M&A Advisory for Jefferies & Company as well as Head of the New York Office for Merrill Lynch’s Middle Market Mergers & Acquisitions Group. Mr. Stephenson joined Wolfensohn & Co., a boutique advisory firm, after beginning his career as a bankruptcy and M&A lawyer.
He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, a JD, awarded with distinction, from Boston College Law School and BA in economics from the University of Michigan. He is admitted to the bars in New York and Massachusetts and is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and American Bankruptcy Institute.
